Quizzes, Tests, and Final Exam

There will be a Take-Home and an In-Class Excel exam as well as a Take-Home and an In-Class Access exam. If a student receives a higher grade on the In-Class exam than on the Take-Home exam, then the Take-Home exam grade will be raised to match the In-class exam grade. The Take-Home exam grade will never be lowered. A higher grade on the Take-Home exam never replaces the In-Class exam grade. The make-up exam does not replace the Take-Home grade but will replace the In-Class exam grade.

There are two optional make-up exams, one for Excel and one for Access. They are administered in-class during Reading Day. The dates of the makeup exams will be announced halfway through the semester. The grade on the make-up exam replaces the grade on the exam even if it is lower. If a student misses the in-class exam, then the grade of the make-up exam will be substituted. A student can take one or both of the make-up exams. For example, if a student misses the Excel in-class exam she can then take the Excel make-up exam which will replace her 0 for the in-class Excel exam.

The gradebook on Blackboard will always reflect the actual grade you earned on an assessment but the replaced grade will be used in the grade calculation.

Testing Procedures

To create a fair testing environment for all students, the following test procedures are generally observed:

Syllabus Quiz

All students must take the syllabus quiz and earn a score of 90% in order to pass the course. The syllabus quiz does not count towards a student's grade. The quiz can be taken as often as needed to pass with a score of 90%. The quiz is administered through Blackboard.

Topic Quizzes

Topic Quizzes are located in each topic in Blackboard. Topic Quizzes will count for 5% of the overall grade and the lowest quiz score will be dropped. These will help you to assess the degree to which you understand the lecture content.

Grading

In-Class exams (30% for Excel In-Class and 30% for Access In-Class) will count for a total of 60 of your overall grade, take-home exams will count for 10% (5% for the Excel Take home and 5% for the Access Take Home exam) . Topic quizzes count for 5% and the assigned labs will count for 14%. The course project will count for 7% of your final grade.
