Getting Office 2013

Please note that Microsoft makes a 60-day trial version of Office 2013 available through their web site. In addition, Northeastern is part of the Microsoft Home Use Program, which allows you to purchase a fully functional and complete academic license of Office for $9.95. Of course, Office 2013 is available on all Northeastern University computers, including all labs and the library.

Using Office 2010 Through myApps

An alternative to installing your own copy of Microsoft Office 2010 is to remotely login to a virtual Northeastern session. This works for both Windows and the Mac.

To access the remote desktop, follow these steps:

  1. Login to myneu.neu.edu
  2. Click on the "Services and Links" tab
  3. Click on Connect to myApps for Windows or myApps for Macs for Mac
  4. Open the downloaded application
  5. Login to the remote desktop using your NEU ID
Now you have a virtual Windows environment that has all of the Northeastern applications available.

Playing Videos

The tutorial videos are provided in several formats (avi, wmv, and mp4). These will play on any Windows PC. For a Mac, you should use the MP4 where available. To play AVI and WMV files, you may need a new video player. The VLC player works for all files.
