Taking care of students' mental health has become increasingly important in education because many external factors can negatively affect their mental well-being and making it so people aren't willing to seek help. People are discussing this issue more and coming up with ways to better support students' mental health.
The mental health of college students is a growing concern worldwide, with many students reporting a decline in their mental well-being. As a college student myself, I have personally experienced the challenges that can impact mental health during this time. It is important to recognize and address this issue in order to better support the mental health and overall well-being of college students.
Data driven insights have been at the forfront of descisions in the past several years and in this instance it still holds true that the knowledge that it could provide would be beneficial to college students all over the world. In a research done by Boston University, they give an insightful analysis on the overall state of students by saying, "Although more students overall are seeking help and access to mental health services on college campuses than they were in 2013—which is good news, says Lipson—the prevalence of mental health issues seems to be outpacing the number of students finding and receiving support".
Data Science can offer valuable insights by presenting a range of statistical data and analysis in a concise manner, which can lead to more efficient and effective recommendations. Additionally, this approach can help people better understand the data being presented, allowing them to make more informed decisions. In terms of this, there are data driven actions being taken to battle this problem, for example a survey which showed that an “increase in demand has challenged institutions to think holistically and take a multifaceted approach to supporting students,”(Abram, APA) said Kevin Shollenberger, the vice provost for student health and well-being at Johns Hopkins University. These conclusions were derived from more factual data insight such as, "They found that the mental health of college students across the United States has been on a consistent decline for all eight years of data analyzed, with an overall 135 percent increase in depression and 110 percent increase in anxiety from 2013 to 2021"(Colarossi). This was a main statement made in the BU research highlights the need to address the issue and find ways to better support the mental health and well-being of students.

This data that shows significant amounts of mental as well as demographic insight into students that would benefit from speaking with a therapist or being supported in a creative manner which was expressed through the APA article. I am not telling people they should be seeking help but rather through this data we can get a better understanding of what are potential drivers in theis decrease in mental health as it is so evident in current times.
