CCIS offers several versions of emacs:
If in doubt, using Gnu Emacs 21.3. The manual linked above is for emacs 19.34, but I believe that everything in there is still accurate.
If you have not used emacs before, there are lots of emacs introductions that can be found with Google or your favorite search engine.
I'm not planning on doing demos in class, but if you pester me I can spend a few minutes showing you how to use emacs with PLT Scheme.
Emacs is highly customizable. A sample .emacs file, with
the minimal set of things I think you should have, is at .emacs. Copy it into your home directory if you
want to use it.
