The provided USB to serial adapter is based on the Prolific PL2303 chipset, which should work without extra drivers at least on modern Linux installations. For other OS you may need to manually install drivers. In particular for Mac OS X we recommend using the osx-pl2303 driver, a binary version of which is included in the driver zipfile:

You may get some error messages as the installer first attemps to uninstall the manufacturer’s driver, which may or may not already be installed. This has been tested on OS X 10.8.2 “Mountain Lion”. You can also try the official manufacturer driver.
- There seems to be an intermittent problem when booting the ohmmkey VM on CCIS Windows machines. If the boot seems to hang, try to gracefully shutdown VMWare Player. If that is not possible (it likely will not be), then use Ctrl-Alt-Delete to try to forcibly kill the VMWare process. If you manage to succeed, then try to “safely remove” the USB key hardware. If all else fails, just pull out the key. Try again on another workstation, meanwhile force a hard reboot (use the power switch) on the workstation that hung.
- If you get a message saying the the VM is “in use”, try to say “ok”, and let it continue if possible. In some cases the boot continues anyway.
- If you continue to get “in use” errors, or if VMWare is complaining that the VM is “locked”, then shut down VMWare, forcibly remove the
*.lck directories in the virtual machine directory on the ohmmkey (be very careful; removing the wrong thing can easily break your ohmmkey), and then try again.
- If you are prompted to “take ownership”, then yes, take it.
- If you are asked if the VM was “moved” or “copied”, select “moved”.
